Yesterday, Sam was screaming and crying and throwing things like crazy. That's not usually him. I thought he might be getting an ear infection. Mary is teething, too. So it was lots and lots of crying. He's also had diarrhea for a few days.
9:00 AM Got everyone loaded up to go to to a Starbucks in midtown to meet a lady from craigslist. She had a bunch of clothes that were Mary's size in great condition, name brand, and her color (she's fair-skinned and pink's not that great on her...more like browns, corals, peaches, blues, etc.) The lady stood me up. Grrr...
10:15 AM Well-baby doctor's appt. For both kids. Sam got a finger poke and was screaming, and by this time, it had turned into a sick-baby check for him. His throat is red and raw, there's snot everywhere, coughing, and sneezing...full-blown cold virus. No ear infection. Mary has been battling thrush for almost 3 weeks. The med prescribed wasn't working, so she had to have a purple medicine painted in her mouth. She looked scary, was screaming, gagging, and it splattered all over her little body. Then she had 2 shots. I dressed her in some of Sam's old raggedy clothes b/c I figured she'd have to get the purple-staining medicine and I didn't want to ruin the decent summer clothes she had. So one lady walked by our double-stroller on the way out and said, "What sweet boys." I smiled and nodded. I didn't have the energy to correct. And no, my daughter didn't just eat a Purple Sharpie. :)
12:00 Noon Wal-Mart. I told Sam I'd get him a donut after the appt. (why did I say that? It's lunchtime!) So he chose the cake donut sprinkled w/ sugar. He was so hungry and snot-nosed, that I let him it eat in the cart, poor child. He had sugar EVERYWHERE. I had to stock up on Tylenol, Motrin, and Mucinex for the kiddos, so he was shaking the bottles loudly and covering them w/ sugar too. Note to self: a baby wipe does not clean granulated sugar off of hands. Or faces. It makes it stickier and worse. I got a frozen pizza for dinner, too. :) Had to stop at Walgreen's on the way home for Mary's meds.
1:00 Home. Everyone is hungry and crying and sick. I gave Mary her dose of Diflucan she also needs for thrush. And Tylenol for her shots. I gave Sam Motrin and Children's Mucinex. I got Sam some Easy Mac and OJ (lunch for champions, right? :) ) and made Mary a bottle. As I was feeding her, I was eating w/ the other hand, and she has a HUGE blow-out all over my hand. I'm literally catching poop. I run upstairs to get fresh clothes in her closet, and the lightbulb burns outs. There is literally purple saliva flying everywhere from her little mouth. I get the poop-disaster cleaned up. I'm so distracted, I begin putting on her poop-covered onesie instead of the fresh one. Sam is crying downstairs.
2:00 I run downstairs, throw a bunch of old blankets on the floor to lay Mary down so she doesn't stain the carpet purple, and clean up the snot-explosion from Sam. Had to take off Mary's bumper and fancy sheet and put an old white sheet in her crib so her nice bedding doesn't get stained. Eventually get them to bed.
3:00 Mommy showers and takes a long hot bath w/ a candle lit. HEAVEN! I could scrub the toilet, but I'm so exhausted w being up w/ Sam through the night, I collapse on the couch and wake up at 4:30 to Mary hollering.
4:30 Mary's hungry. And purple-mouthed. Sam wakes up a bit later ready for a snack too.
5:00 GRAMMY'S HERE! (Hallelujah chorus sung here. :) ) My mom came, so I gave Mary a bath and then Sam a bath, got the pizza in the oven. Stain-treated Mary's clothes. Sam has a diaper FULL of liquid diarrhea. (Sorry, TMI.) Mary's poopy too. Change diapers. Get pizza cut up and applesauce for Sam. (I'm sure that's great for his GI.) Fed Mary oatmeal. Papa came too. It was good to see him! Unloaded dishwasher. Started laundry. Clean up more snot.
8:00 Grammy and Papa leave. Change Mary. She begins to pee...everywhere. I take off her soaked onesie, the blanket hanging on the changing table, and there's TONS of pee on the carpet and running down the changing table. I didn't know a 6-month-old could produce that much urine at one time! Get Resolve. Clean up pee. New jammies. Crying, pacifier, rock. Repeat. Repeat again. Repeat again. Read Goodnight Moon to Sam. Clean up more snot. Brush Sam's teeth. Snuggle, prayers, and to bed.
9:00 Quiet in the house. Mommy has a cold one (an orange Fanta soda :) ) and a moment of peace. Although this was a crazy, crazy, crazy day...this is my life. Usually by the time Jason gets home I'm pouring sweat and I haven't sat down all day. I typically do 5-6 loads of laundry a day between spit-up clothes, work-out clothes, daily clothes, and towels and rags. Throw in cleaning and grocery shopping and diapers and feedings...it gets a little crazy. But I wouldn't change it for the world. When Sam gives me a snuggle or Mary buries her head in my chest, I know it's worth it.
Good Night.
